          Comments about Yakima BigStack:

Used the Big Stack on my 2011 Suburban with the manufacturer installed oval crossbars to carry 2 pyranha burns, 1 pyranha varun, and a dragorassi mafia. The supports mounted securely onto the crossbars and the boats were stacked two on either side. The supplied straps held the boats very securely and felt as though they wouldn't need the bow and stern lines, but these lines were installed just for safety sake. Other reviewers who complained that the boats did not feel secure clearly weren't mounting the boats correctly. I have only used the product on one trip but the trip involved about 19 hours total of highway driving at speeds of 75 mph and I never once had to get out and check or rearrange the lines. I would definitely recommend this product.

              Comments about Yakima BigStack:

Actually it can hold up to four kayaks which makes it great for multi party trips.
Loading a single kayak can be difficult at times, but still do-able. The difficulty comes in getting the kayak to stay upright with out falling off the roof, before you can get the straps on. This however, is only an issue when loading it by yourself. With two people the issue is well, not an issue.

              Comments about Yakima BigStack:

The Big Stack is performing as advertised. The pair stackers are used on top of a truck rack as well as a modified utility trailer. Trips are made from the mountains to the sea with no real issues. The fact the stackers fold is especially useful. The only advice I have is if Yakima could "beef up" the bottom adjustment slot.

Finally a rack that fits the Outback's odd roofrack right out of the box! Very stable, even with 3 boats on the interstate at 80 mph! And you can add the Yakima locks to it too. Love it!!

Can/should the BigStack be used with composite kayaks?

I have never used it on a composite kayak, everything I have hauled has been poly. The system works great. I don't think I would be afraid to use it on a composite boat if the need came up. You can't overtighten the straps on the BigStack like you can with some other systems. If you stack more than one boat you might want to add some padding anywhere the boat may rub..
I am not sure if that helps or not, but good luck with your search.

it "can" but i wouldnt recommend it. the tie downs are necessarily pretty strong, and theyll put a good bit of flex in your typical poly kayak to get it road ready. i would get a more dedicated solution higher up in yakimas lineup. the big stack is really best suited for carrying recreational, durable, plasticky kayaks that u dont mind banging around. for my needs it fit the bill.

I'm not sure what a "composite" kayak is. We have used our BigStack to tie down my Dagger Mamba, daughter's Wave Wavesport Diesel 70 and my husband's old school Perception Super Sport and it has worked great!
                  Hope that helps!

Composite boats are more fragile than their plastic cousins. They're safer being cradled in supportive units like the Yakima LandShark, EvenKeel and Mako roof rack attachments.
