Dear Barb the outdoor lover:
You asked about whether Yakima makes any tie-down straps that are secured under the hood and inside the back hatchback.
Both Yakima and Thule make loop strap devices that you can secure a regular tie-down strap to.
Yakima makes the Yakima Anchor Strap Kit. One end is attached to a bolt under your hood or rear of the car. You keep the loop end out when you close your hood. You attach the tie-down strap to the loop.
This product is not sold by NRS, but you can see this product at the RackAttack.Com site at:

You'll need to find a bolt toward the rear end of the car. That may not be so easy with a hatchback. But read on.
First, Thule makes a similar product to the Yakima Anchor Strap. The Thule Hood Loop Strap is basically the identical design of the Yakima Anchor Strap. You can see this product on the rackattack.com site at:

Thule also makes a strap that you can place under the lid of your trunk or tailgate. The Thule 530 Quick Loop Strap secures inside your tailgate, with the loop sticking out from the gate. You can see this product at the rackattack.com site at:

I don't work for RackAttack.Com and am just a fellow NRS shopper and devoted sea kayaker. I found these products and use them because I have a two-door coupe that I sometimes use to transport my kayak to and from the water, and that car did not have any anchor points. I purchased the Thule Hood Loop Strap to provide an anchor point for the front of the car and the Thule Quick Loop Strap to provide an anchor point for the rear of the car. Of course, nothing beats a hard mount to the car, but these products perform well.
Hope this helps! Happy holidays-
Best-
