Bought this with 1" webbing to replace the straps that hold down the hatch covers on my Necky sea kayak. I had a friend with an industrial sewing machine do the stitching of each strap and buckle.
I have used this buckle, no you will have to open the loop the buckle is not open on end Remix Design

Hello Greg, This Buckle is fixed on the ends and is made for a fixed (sewn) loop and the other end is adjustable type. NRS has changed the buckle since I bought my dry bag. I bought it for a replacement on an older dry bag broken buckle and it required some modification by sewing. To answer your question no the ends do not open. Mark

Hi, Not on the ones I got. Sorry. My application was different, not very sophisticated. I made my own straps, they weren't permanently fixed to anything. Mike

Greg, looking at the right end of the product photo, that is a a closed opening. You have to have a loose webbing end to pass through it.
