Astral Greenjacket PFD - Closeout Q: I am 6'3 with a 44-45" chest. Should I get the m/l or go up because of a drytop? Asked on 4/25/2013 by new kayaker from california Know the answer? Answer this question 9 answers A: I would move up a size. I am a little smaller and just fit into the m/l. Answered on 4/30/2013 by Anonymous A: Go up. Answered on 4/29/2013 by Anonymous A: I have the same measurements and have the m/l. Its snug with a drysuit but I prefer that to having a bulky vest with dangling straps. Answered on 4/29/2013 by icebox from lynchburg, va A: Get the large Sent from my U.S. Cellular® smartphone Answered on 4/29/2013 by Anonymous A: def go up - you can always cinch it down Answered on 4/29/2013 by Anonymous A: I would suggest going up. Answered on 4/29/2013 by Anonymous A: I'd go up in size as I find it a bit snug getting into the jacket. Otherwise, it's very comfortable! Answered on 4/25/2013 by Mike from Naples, FL A: You should go up to the larger size. Answered on 4/25/2013 by Clyde from NRS A: Go up! Not because of the dry top but because Astral's sizing is kinda small. Answered on 4/25/2013 by seaspyder from Potomac
Astral Greenjacket PFD - Closeout Q: I'm 5'1" tall, male, and weigh about 150 lbs. I'm also sixteen, so I'm curious which size would be best if I plan on it lasting me a while. Thanks! Asked on 4/21/2013 by Brady from Cascade, ID Know the answer? Answer this question 9 answers A: The medium/large should fit you well. This is my second astral PFD, both are medium/large size. And I am 5'10" and 154 lbs. Sent from Scott's iPhone Answered on 4/23/2013 by Anonymous A: i'd go with the S/M, I'm 5'10'' 165lbs 39"chest and i have the M/L and i have to have all the straps about as tight as they go. Answered on 4/23/2013 by Anonymous A: I'm 5'4" about 145 lbs. I would describe my upper body as medium short. I have a small/medium and it fits well over nothing and over drysuit. Answered on 4/22/2013 by Anonymous A: The adjustments are pretty good. Depends how much biggn you think you'll get. I would probably stick with a medium, you should be safe. Answered on 4/21/2013 by Anonymous A: You will definitely want the small/medium in the Astral Greenjacket. I am 6'4" and 195lbs. and wear the medium/large, though I have worn a small/medium and it fits me okay. You will not be able to adjust the medium/large snug enough to safely wear. As mentioned, I wear the medium/large and it almost doesn't cinch down enough if I'm not wearing my drysuit or other layers underneath. Answered on 4/21/2013 by Anonymous A: My son is 5'8" and weighs 135. The M/L fits him very nicely. He's 18. Answered on 4/21/2013 by Rogue Aardvark from Grants Pass, OR A: I found that this PFD runs just a little small. However, based upon the Astral size chart it still fit. Go to Astral website and look at their sizing chart. Sent from my iPhone Thom Stineman Answered on 4/21/2013 by ThomS from Washington, DC A: I'm 5'9" and not a large build. I got a M/L. It's a good size for me and I would guess it's a good size for you now and to grow into. It's a very comfortable jacket, although it's probably not great for short sessions as you'd be better with a lower profile jacket. Good Luck. Answered on 4/21/2013 by Anonymous A: Brady, life jackets are sized by chest size. Give us a call, 800.635.5202, and we'll help you get the right size. Answered on 4/21/2013 by Clyde from NRS
Astral Greenjacket PFD - Closeout Q: I am 5'7" 150 lbs, female with a 36D bust. Would I buy the s/m or m/l. And can I return it if it does not fit? Asked on 4/6/2013 by Sarah from milwaukee Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: Sarah, a couple of our kayakers recommend the M/L for you. And yes, you can return it if you don't like the fit. Answered on 4/8/2013 by Clyde from NRS
Astral Greenjacket PFD - Closeout Q: Can any one tell me what is the little adjustable strap next to the lash tab is for? Asked on 10/26/2012 by alejandro from Philippines Know the answer? Answer this question 3 answers A: The black rubber strap is where you tow tether leash Caribeaner hooks to vest for a fast pull away then other end of tether attaches to the metal ring on the nylon strap in back Sent from my iPhone Answered on 10/26/2012 by Anonymous A: Hi Alejandro, It's for securing the carabiner end of a cow tail (tow system). Look at the NRS Tow Tether. Astral makes a web tow that integrates with the quick release rescue web strap that fits in the side pocket. However some people like to use a cow tail instead. They both connect to the back of the PFD using the supplied or integrated metal ring. The difference is the Astral version uses webbing and a carabine that stores in the side pocket and the cow tail hangs along the side and is secure to the front using the strap. I've seem it use for several other things, but that's what it's intended for.. -Eric Answered on 10/27/2012 by harrski from Damascus, MD A: Hi there, I'm guessing you mean the one on the front of the jacket. I find it a bit Anoying but I have a friend that thinks its amazing to clip the end of his cows tail through for quick release. So if he ever needs it in a hurry he can just pull the carabiner and the whole tag will come loose. Cheers Answered on 10/28/2012 by kiaora from New Zealand
Astral Greenjacket PFD - Closeout Q: Does the jacket include a white water tow teather? If not, does NRS sell one that fits this jacket? Asked on 10/20/2012 by Peter from Salt Lake City, UT Know the answer? Answer this question 6 answers A: No tow tether. I think NPS sells one. Pretty good price on the PFD. Sent from my iPhone Thom Stineman Answered on 10/20/2012 by ThomS from Washington, DC A: No it does not. Yes, NRS sells them. Buy two and send us one! :) Answered on 10/20/2012 by kayaker joe from Vancouver, WA A: It doesn't include a tether, but anything with a metal ring will fit on this. It's a 1" nylon strap that hold whatever tether you choose. Matt Went Answered on 10/20/2012 by Anonymous A: No the jacket does not come with a tow teather. And NRS does sell 2 that will work with this jacket (2 separate lengths are available). Sent from Scott's iPhone Answered on 10/20/2012 by Anonymous A: No tow tether comes with the GJ. See NRS Item # 2191 for your tow tether. Answered on 10/22/2012 by Clyde from NRS A: No, it does not include a tow tether. Answered on 10/23/2012 by Anonymous
Astral Greenjacket PFD - Closeout Q: I am 6'2" and weigh 280 pounds. will this jacket fit me? Asked on 10/7/2012 by Jim from Appleton, Wi Know the answer? Answer this question 5 answers A: Maybe. I'm 6'2" and 220 the length is Ok, but no excess. Sent from my iPhone Thom Stineman Answered on 10/7/2012 by ThomS from Washington, DC A: Hey Jim, It really depends on your body shape. The XL should fit, but it is a pullover entry system so it may be hard to get on. The torso is adjustable so it should be long enough. This is a really great jacket. I know a ton of people (all different shapes and sizes) and they all love it. I've owned about 6 pfds an this is the Iraq one that has fit well! Good luck! Answered on 10/7/2012 by Anonymous A: If it's the M/L then definitely. I am 6'2" 175 and I have to cinch it down pretty tight. It shouldn't be a problem. And it's a really nice pfd Matt Went Answered on 10/8/2012 by Anonymous A: Please look at the sizing chart. Life jackets are sized by chest size. We have an excellent returns policy if it doesn't fit. Answered on 10/8/2012 by Clyde from NRS A: No Answered on 10/8/2012 by Anonymous

Answered on 9/22/2012 by Grasshopper from Manassas, VA A: The M/L weighs 2.7 pounds. Answered on 9/24/2012 by Clyde from NRS
Astral Greenjacket PFD - Closeout Q: Does this lifejacket have an entrapement problem when trying to remove when submerged? Asked on 9/10/2012 by River rat Know the answer? Answer this question 4 answers A: This pfd doesn't have a zipper, it pulls over the top of the head, so it will probably be harder to get out of, but there are not many situations where you would be entraped and want to take it off. I don't think this pfd would take significantly longer to take off than any other. Answered on 9/10/2012 by Anonymous A: I have worn the Astral Green Jacket for several seasons rafting and kayaking.. In my opinion, any PFD that is intended for difficult whitewater should be slightly more involved to take on and off. The last thing I want to think about while paddling a difficult rapid is my PFD and whether it will stay in place should the unexpected happen. There are few situations where one would want to remove one's PFD while submerged. The only situation that comes to mind is being entangled in a strainer. Yes, this PFD is slightly more difficult to remove than some others, but I personally wouldn't be wearing those other jackets for really challenging rivers. The Green Vest is the best PFD for its intended purpose. I have no affiliation with NRS or Astral. Answered on 9/10/2012 by Anonymous A: The Astral is made to stay on so that even an unconscious individual can be lifted by the shoulder straps, and so that the jacket will not twist when towing another boat, etc. I would trade that security and utility for the added difficulty of removing this jacket when submerged. Yes, removing the jacket requires that multiple tightening points be loosened, but it can be done by someone who has presence of mind and has rehearsed the procedure. This PFD is designed for trained rescue professionals who would/should have such presence of mind and who will take the time to know how to use this piece of equipment in every emergency, including removal of the PFD. However, the circumstances in which this would be warranted are so rare as to be almost not worthy of mention. Answered on 9/10/2012 by Anonymous A: I've only had the vest for one day, so this is very preliminary. Fit, finish, and comfort seem to be top notch. Putting it on and taking it off over your head is difficult but will probably improve with practice and after it is broke in. When in it there are six buckle/straps that secure it in place plus the rescue harness all of which have to be released to exit the vest. Getting out of it could certainly be a challenge if your full range of movement is impaired in any way. So in answer to you question, at this point, I'd say "probably yes".
