These shafts' plastic sheaths may expand in hot weather conditions. Therefore, it may be necessary to remove plastic that extends over the hole in the aluminum that accepts the blade button. This is easily done with a sharp knife. NRS is not accepting returns on these shafts as we are aware of the problem and offering them at a discount.

Proven around the world, Carlisle's tough, maintenance-free, quality aluminum shafts give you maximum strength and performance.
  • The 1-7/8" diameter thick-walled tempered aluminum tubing is sheathed in colorful, abrasion-resistant polyethylene tubing.

  • 8' and longer oars have reinforced inner shafts for extra-duty strength.

  • Rubber grips cushion the molded plastic handles.

  • Removable blades permit easy storage and transport.

  • Shaft size includes handle and blade.

  • Oars sold individually

  • Blade sold separately
  • Shaft length without blade:
  • 7' = 56.5"
  • 7.5' = 62.5"
  • 8' = 68.5"
  • 8.5' = 74.5"
  • 9' = 80.5"
  • 9.5' = 86.5"
  • 10' = 92.5"
  • 11' = 104.5"

Comments about Carlisle Oar Shafts - Closeout:

As the ad states, the vinyl may (and probably will) expand and interfere with the latching mechnism. On my 9' oar shafts I trimmed 1/4" with my pocket knife (towards the handle)
Wish I had done this at home and not after I had run that class III rapid with one of my blades that became unlatched due to this problem!
Hint: leave them in the hot sun for awhile to let them expand, then trim as needed.

These oar shafts are simple and effective. No counter weights are needed. These are strong, much lighter than wood, and require no maintenance. Better than wood in that regard as well.

In the process of building a drift raft for flyfishing. Product should work well. Purchased 2 one piece oars and one 2 piece as a back-up. Product arrived in good condition. Plastic coating obstructs the opening for the paddle pin but can be easily cut out of the way with an X-Acto knife.

I will be using this oar with my 15' Hyside as a backup oar on multi-day trips. I much prefer my counterbalanced oars. However, the great price of this closeout oar makes having to cut out a bit of plastic worth it.
