        Comments about Werner Guide Stick:

Pro guide here, still going strong after four seasons, including last years bone fest on the Clackamas at 600 CFS. Will be working the American River system this year, those nice round granite boulders will seem like marshmallows after the volcanic harshness of the Cascade rock to my beloved guide stick. Before I coughed up the admitedly intimidating price, I don't know how many Carlisle guide paddles I broke... you will save money in the long run.

          Comments about Werner Guide Stick:

The Werner Guide Stick worked very well in all river conditions. Its light weight and ergonomic design makes spending a full day on the water easy. The shape of blade makes J-Strokes, draw-strokes and tillering all very easy and fluid. Helps make corrections in whitewater with the least effort.

          Love it!

                Comments about Werner Guide Stick:

I love my Werner Guidestick. It's been through innumerable Class 4 and 5 adventures on technical European rivers. It's never let me down. I will reluctantly replace it with another exactly the same this year. It's earned it's place in my rafting hall of fame. Give it a chance to be in yours. You won't regret it.

                  Comments about Werner Guide Stick:

I have used my guidestick for 3 seasons commercially. It has saved my shoulders from serious injury due to it's light weight in moving it around (unlike other heavier guidesticks). It works well and is sturdy enough to push off rocks if needed in low water. My only complaint is the black/yellow combo- a bit boring.

Can you tell me what you mean by a spooned blade?

                        A:

The spoon shape is simply the shape of the blade. The Carisile guide stick
blade is larger and has a more square shape. The Werner is smaller and
more circular which means it doesn't have the surface area that the
Carisile does but it's significantly lighter and faster to paddle through
the water. It's a bit confusing because I think of "spoon" as meaning the
shape of a spoon (like a kayak paddle blade) but the werner is a true guide
stick and there is no front/back.

Stephen, a spooned blade has a concave face for increased water catch with each stroke. However, the Guide Stick is not spooned, it's symmetrical on both faces.

                      What is the shaft diameter?

The non-indexed part of the shaft is 1-1/4" in diameter.

                        A:

The shaft diameter as I measured it appears to be between 1.125" to 1.25" (or 1-1/8 inches to 1-1/4 inches).

                        A:

One of the cool parts of this paddle is that the shaft in area your hand is
placed is a slight oval in section.
The major axis is ~1.30", the minor axis is 1.17". This may seem hardly
noticeable from the numbers, but it makes all the difference in the world!
Great grip, great control and very comfortable.
                        Nice paddle.
                        Enjoy!

The Guide Stick is only available in the fiberglass shaft and they cannot put a bend in the shaft on this paddle.
